Community guidelines

Last updated October 13, 2026

A good fragrance community is honest, generous and safe. Here is what that means in practice, how to report problems and what our moderators do about them.

The spirit of it

Scenta works because people share honest data: how long a scent lasted on them, what they paid, which bottle smells like which. Be generous, be accurate and be kind. Every taste and budget is welcome here, from designer and niche to Middle Eastern houses and clones.

These guidelines apply to everything you share: your name and handle, photos, reviews, comments, votes, prices, catalog edits and batch notes.

What's not allowed

Each heading below is a reason you can choose when you report something; the app offers the ones that fit what you are reporting.

Spam

Keep it about fragrance and keep it genuine. No selling, promotion or fake engagement.

  • ads, promo codes, affiliate or referral links
  • selling, swapping or giveaways
  • repetitive or off-topic posts
  • extra accounts or coordinated votes to push a fragrance, a dupe or a price

Harassment

Disagree about fragrances, not about people. Nobody should feel targeted here.

  • insults, threats or mockery aimed at a person
  • piling on, or chasing someone from post to post
  • pushing someone to keep talking after they said no

Hate

No attacks on people for who they are.

  • slurs or stereotypes about race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or caste
  • attacks based on sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or illness
  • hateful symbols in photos, avatars or names

Sexual content

Calling a scent sensual is fine; explicit content is not.

  • nudity or sexual images, including avatars
  • sexually explicit descriptions or solicitations
  • anything that sexualizes someone under 18

Violence

No threats, and nothing that celebrates hurting people or animals.

  • threats of violence against a person or a group
  • graphic images of injury or cruelty
  • content that glorifies an attack or its attacker

Self-harm

Nothing that encourages or glorifies self-harm, suicide or disordered eating. We review these reports first.

  • instructions or encouragement to hurt yourself
  • content presenting self-harm as admirable

Impersonation

Be yourself. Do not pose as another person, a brand, a perfumer or Scenta staff.

  • a name, handle or avatar copied from someone else to mislead
  • claiming to speak for a brand, a shop or our moderators
  • scams that borrow a real person or business

Private information

Keep people's private details private, yours included when you are unsure.

  • someone's address, phone number, email or workplace shared without their consent
  • photos of a person taken or posted without their consent
  • receipts, screenshots or messages that show other people’s details

Copyright

Share only your own photos and words.

  • brand descriptions, retailer photos or other sites' reviews copied in
  • someone else's photo posted as your own

Wrong information

Opinions are welcome; wrong facts and harmful false claims are not. Catalog facts, prices, check-ins and votes must reflect reality.

  • made-up notes, years or perfumers, or prices you did not actually pay
  • joke entries or deliberately wrong votes
  • health claims, such as a fragrance treating anxiety or illness
  • claiming a counterfeit is authentic, or that a batch code proves authenticity
  • false claims about a brand or a person presented as fact

Illegal

Nothing that breaks the law or helps someone break it.

  • selling counterfeit, stolen or banned goods
  • instructions for dangerous or criminal activity
  • content that depicts or promotes illegal acts

Something else

Anything else that breaks these guidelines, our terms or the law.

  • content that fits none of the reasons above but does not belong here

If you are thinking about harming yourself, please reach out now to someone you trust, your local emergency number or a crisis line. In the US, call or text 988.

Fixing the catalog

Search before you add a fragrance or a brand, so it exists once, under one spelling. A fragrance or brand that already exists under another spelling is a duplicate, and curators merge duplicates.

If a fact is wrong, choose Suggest a correction on the fragrance page and a curator will review it. If you find a duplicate, or an entry that is plainly false, report it as Wrong information and a curator will merge or fix it. Adding the same post twice, or leaving a mistake in place, helps nobody.

Teens

Scenta is for people aged 13 and over. The reviews, batch notes and dupe comments of people under 18 stay visible only to them, and they can't set deal alerts. Nobody may ask a teen for personal information or photos, or try to move them to private contact elsewhere. We remove content that puts young people at risk and report child sexual exploitation to the authorities.

How reporting works

Tap the ••• menu on a review, photo, price, batch note, comment or catalog entry and choose Report, then pick the reason that fits best. You can also block the author of a review or a batch note from the same menu: their content stays hidden from you, and yours from them.

Reports are private: the person you report is never told who reported them. Abusing reports, for example to silence an opinion, is itself against the guidelines.

What moderators do

Uploaded photos and text are checked automatically, and anything flagged is hidden until a moderator looks at it. Moderators review reports and can:

  • remove content or fix catalog data;
  • give a warning;
  • temporarily stop an account from posting;
  • suspend or permanently close an account for serious or repeated violations.

We tell you when we act on your content or account.

Appeals

If you think we got it wrong, email support@scenta.app with your handle and what happened, and we will look at the decision again. Copyright removals follow the copyright counter-notice process instead.
