Who we are

Scenta is operated by Early Rocket, LLC, 131 Continental Drive, Suite 305, Newark, DE 19713, United States (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal information processed through the Scenta iPhone app and this website. Questions about privacy go to privacy@scenta.app.

What we collect

Scenta is an online service: you need an account, and what you save is stored on our servers so it is on every device you sign in on. Here is everything we collect.

Account
When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive an account identifier from that service, your email address (with Apple this can be a private relay address) and, if you choose to share it, your name. For Sign in with Apple we also keep an encrypted token so we can revoke Scenta's access when you delete your account. We never see your Apple or Google password.
Profile and settings
Your handle, display name, bio and avatar, home city, country, currency, time zone and units, notification and check-in preferences, taste quiz answers, and your age range. The age range comes from Apple's Declared Age Range or what you tell us; we never ask for your birthday.
Your collection
The bottles you add and their details (size, fill level, price paid, store, purchase date, condition, batch code, private notes), your lists, tags and collections, and your Want list and deal alerts.
What you log
Wears (time and time zone, how you logged it, occasion, sprays, the weather at the time and your city), compliments, longevity check-ins, feedback on Today's pick, try-on sessions and layering ratings.
Your taste
Rankings and the comparisons behind them, and notes you like or dislike. From these we compute a taste profile that powers picks, match scores and recommendations.
Community contributions
Votes (seasons, occasions, accords and dupes), reviews, blocks, reports, price reports, batch notes, and catalog contributions such as new fragrances, corrections, barcodes and photos.
Photos
Photos you upload or scan; see Photos and scans.
Device
An installation identifier, push notification tokens (including those that update Live Activities), app version, platform, language and time zone.
Purchases
Whether you have Scenta Pro, which plan, trial and renewal status, and when it ends. Apple handles payment; we never see your card details.
Usage and diagnostics
See Analytics and crash reports.
Support
The emails you send us and our replies.

Location and calendar

We store a city, never your precise location. You can choose your city by name. If you allow location access, Scenta asks iOS only for an approximate location, sends it once to look up the nearest city, and our server keeps just the city. The city is used for weather, longevity by climate, and local prices and deals. Adding a city to a price report is optional.

Your calendar never leaves your phone. Calendar-aware picks (a Pro feature you switch on) read event titles on your iPhone to recognize occasions like a dinner or an interview. Only the occasion, never the event, can be saved with a wear you log.

Photos and scans

We remove location and camera metadata from photos before they are stored.

  • Shared photos (bottle photos for the catalog and avatars) are checked by automated moderation and become visible to other people once approved.
  • Scans (label scans, whole-shelf scans and photo match) are used only to identify bottles and are deleted automatically after 7 days.
  • Receipts you add to a price report are private: only you and our moderators can see them. They are used only to verify the price and are deleted 30 days after the verification decision. A receipt you upload but don't add to a price report is deleted after 7 days.
  • Try-on photos are private to you and deleted 30 days after upload.

How we use it

  • To run Scenta: sync your shelf and logs, compute picks, stats, rankings and match scores.
  • To build community statistics such as longevity, compliment rates, dupes and prices. These are aggregated and never identify you.
  • To keep the catalog accurate, and to moderate content and keep the community safe.
  • To send the notifications you have turned on.
  • To manage your subscription.
  • To answer support requests.
  • To understand which features work, fix crashes and improve Scenta.
  • To protect the service from abuse, for example by rate-limiting requests.
  • To meet legal obligations.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running the app and your subscription); our legitimate interests in community statistics, safety, security and improving the product, which we balance against your rights; your consent for location, calendar and notifications, which you can withdraw in iOS Settings; and legal obligations.

AI processing

Some tasks need judgment rather than fixed rules. For these, our servers use Claude models from Anthropic:

  • identifying a bottle from a photo (photo match) and finding bottles in a shelf photo (both Pro);
  • reading a label when your iPhone can't read it on its own;
  • reading product names from barcode databases and rows of a CSV import;
  • checking uploaded photos and text (reviews, comments, bios, names and batch notes) against our guidelines;
  • pre-checking price receipts; and suggesting resolutions to our moderators.

We send only the photo or text a task needs, never your name or email. Anthropic processes it on our behalf and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models. Label reading happens on your iPhone first, using Apple's on-device text recognition, whenever it can. If an automated check flags something you posted, it is hidden until a moderator reviews it; people make the final call on moderation and catalog changes.

What other people see

  • Nobody else can see your shelf, wears, rankings or taste profile: they stay on your account. A share card or wishlist card leaves Scenta only when you send it, and is seen only by the people you send it to.
  • Reviews and batch notes you post are shown with your name or handle. For people under 18, reviews, batch notes and dupe comments stay visible only to them.
  • Dupe comments, photos you add, price reports and catalog corrections are shared without your name or handle. Price reports are shared only if you choose to.
  • Your check-ins, compliments and votes feed community statistics that don't identify you.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. There are no ads in Scenta.

Shopping links

“Where to buy” links open a brand's site, a shop's search or a decant seller in your browser, outside Scenta. When you open one, our server counts the click with the date, the fragrance, the shop and where in the app the link was shown (for example, a recommendation). The count is never linked to you or your account.

Some of these links are affiliate links, always labelled as such in the app: they pass through our affiliate network (Skimlinks or Sovrn Commerce) or carry a shop's referral code, and we may earn a commission if you buy. The network and the shop receive your visit the way any website does (your IP address, browser details and the cookies they set) under their own privacy policies. We tell them only where in the app the link was shown, never who you are.

Service providers

These companies process personal information for us, only to provide their service and under contracts that require them to protect it:

  • Fly.ioRuns our API and background jobs. All app data while it is processed.
  • SupabaseHosts our database.Your account and everything you save in the app.
  • Cloudflare R2Stores and delivers photos.Photos you upload.
  • AppleSign in with Apple, push notifications, WeatherKit and App Store purchases.Sign-in identifiers, push tokens and notification content, city locations for weather, purchase status.
  • GoogleSign in with Google.Sign-in identifiers and email address.
  • RevenueCatManages Scenta Pro subscriptions and purchases. An app user ID and your App Store purchase history for Scenta.
  • AnthropicAI models that read photos and text (see "AI processing").The photo or text needed for each task, without your name or email.
  • PostHogProduct analytics, when enabled.Usage events, device details, a pseudonymous ID.
  • SentryCrash and error reports, when enabled.Diagnostics, device details, a pseudonymous ID.
  • VercelHosts this website.Standard request logs such as IP address and browser.

When you scan a barcode we don't know yet, our server looks the number up in Open Beauty Facts and UPCitemdb. They receive the barcode only, never anything about you.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or to a successor if Scenta is sold or merged, in which case we will tell you first.

Analytics and crash reports

When analytics are enabled in the app, PostHog records events such as “wear logged from a widget” together with the app version, device model, iOS version and a pseudonymous ID. When crash reporting is enabled, Sentry receives crash reports and error diagnostics. Neither receives your email, your name, your notes, your photos or anything you write.

This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Vercel, which hosts it, keeps standard request logs to operate and secure the site.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and everything in it: until you delete it, or delete your account.
  • Label, shelf and photo-match scans: 7 days.
  • Receipts: 30 days after the verification decision; a receipt never added to a price report, 7 days after upload.
  • Try-on photos: 30 days after upload.
  • Shopping-link click counts: kept as totals that never identify you.
  • Records that stop the app from syncing the same entry twice: 30 days.
  • Price reports you shared: they stay in price statistics after you delete your account, with no link to you.
  • Server logs: up to 30 days. Crash reports: up to 90 days. Analytics events: up to 12 months.
  • Backups: deleted data can remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before they are overwritten.
  • Moderation records, such as a suspension: as long as needed to enforce our rules or meet legal obligations.
  • Support emails: as long as needed to help you, and no longer than 2 years.

Your choices and rights

You can do most things yourself in the app:

  • Edit your profile, collection and logs at any time.
  • Download all your data as a file: Me › , then Settings › , then Account › , then Export my data.
  • Delete your account and data: Me › , then Settings › , then Account › , then Delete account. See Delete your account.
  • Choose whether your prices are shared by default, and manage the accounts you blocked: Me › , then Settings › , then Privacy.
  • Turn location, calendar and notification access on or off in iOS Settings.

Depending on where you live, you also have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. California residents have the right to know, delete and correct personal information, to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do neither) and not to be treated differently for using these rights; an authorized agent may make a request for you.

To make a request, email privacy@scenta.app from the address linked to your account, or tell us your handle so we can verify it's you. We reply within 30 days.

International transfers

Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where data leaves the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on adequacy decisions or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (and the UK addendum) to protect it.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections and is encrypted at rest by our providers. Receipts and private photos sit in private storage and are shown only through short-lived links. Only people who need it for their work can access personal information, and moderation actions are logged. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

Children and teens

Scenta is for people aged 13 and over. If we learn that someone under 13 has an account, we delete it. We use Apple's Declared Age Range where available. For people under 18, deal alerts are off, and their reviews, batch notes and dupe comments stay visible only to them.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
