Terms of use

The agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Early Rocket, LLC (“we”, “us”), which operates Scenta. They cover the Scenta app for iPhone, the service behind it and this website. By creating an account or using Scenta, you accept these terms, our privacy policy and our community guidelines.

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.

Your account

You sign in with Apple or Google. Keep that account secure, because anyone who can use it can use Scenta as you. Your handle must not impersonate anyone or mislead. One person, one account. You can delete your account at any time: Me › , then Settings › , then Account › , then Delete account.

The service

Scenta needs an internet connection; what you log offline is sent when you reconnect. We keep improving the app, so features may change, and we may pause the service briefly for maintenance. If we ever shut Scenta down, we will give you at least 60 days' notice and time to export your data.

Scenta Pro subscriptions

Scenta is free to use. Scenta Pro is optional and adds the features listed in the app. It is sold through the App Store:

• Monthly: $3.99 per month.
• Annual: $29.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers.

These are US prices; the App Store shows the price in your currency, including any taxes, before you confirm.

• Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
• A free trial becomes a paid annual subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. If you buy a subscription during a trial, the rest of the trial ends.
• Manage or cancel in iPhone Settings › , then [your name] › , then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app or your Scenta account does not cancel a subscription.
• Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com.
• Bought Pro before or on another device? Use Me › , then Settings › , then Scenta Pro › , then Restore purchases while signed in to the same Apple Account.
• If a price changes, Apple tells you in advance and, where required, asks for your consent before the next renewal.

Scenta Pro is only ever bought through the App Store. We do not give it away for promotions or anything else you do in the app, and the free trial above is the only free Pro.

Your content

You own what you post: reviews, comments, photos, notes and everything else you add (“your content”). You must have the right to share it, and it must follow our community guidelines.

You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, adapt (for example resize or crop), display and distribute your content as needed to run, improve and show Scenta, and to let our service providers do so for us. For content you make visible to others, the license covers showing it to them. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except:

• Community data that is already part of shared statistics or the catalog (votes, check-ins, price reports, and facts such as notes, barcodes or a new fragrance you added) stays, with no link to you. The catalog and statistics depend on it, so this part of the license is perpetual and irrevocable.
• Copies others legitimately made, such as a share card you sent, are outside our control.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.

Acceptable use

When you use Scenta, don't:

• post anything our community guidelines don't allow, or anything illegal;
• add false data on purpose, such as fake prices, votes, check-ins or catalog entries;
• impersonate anyone, or run more than one account to game votes or prices;
• sell, swap or advertise products, or post affiliate or referral links;
• infringe anyone's copyright, trademark or other rights;
• scrape, crawl or bulk-download Scenta or its catalog, or access it other than through our apps;
• reverse engineer the apps or service (except where the law allows it), get around Pro, rate limits or other technical limits, or probe or disrupt our systems;
• use Scenta to harass, track or harm anyone.

Moderation and suspension

We may remove content or limit, suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the community guidelines, or to protect people or Scenta. We explain how in the community guidelines and tell you when we act on your account, unless the law or someone's safety prevents it. You can ask us to review a decision by writing to support@scenta.app. If we close your account because you broke these terms, any remaining subscription time is not refunded by us; Apple handles refunds under its policies.

Fragrance information

The catalog, community statistics, prices, dupes, picks and match scores come from datasets, other users and our algorithms. They are estimates to help you decide, not guarantees: a scent may last longer or shorter on you, a reported price may not be available to you, and a match score is a prediction. Batch-code dates are estimates and never prove that a bottle is authentic.

Scenta makes no health claims. If you have allergies or sensitive skin, check the ingredients the brand lists and patch-test first.

We don't sell fragrances. Fragrance and brand names belong to their owners and are used only to identify products; Scenta isn't affiliated with or endorsed by them.

Shopping links and affiliate disclosure

“Where to buy” links open brand sites, shop searches and decant sellers outside Scenta. Each link names the site it opens. We are not responsible for those sites, their prices or stock, or what you buy there.

Some of these links are affiliate links. When you buy through one, or use a referral code we show, we may earn a commission from the seller, at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links and codes are labelled as such wherever they appear in the app. Commissions never affect your match scores, picks or recommendations.

Our rights

The apps, design, software and the Scenta name and logo belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the apps for your own use under these terms. The catalog includes data from third-party datasets under their own licenses; see attributions.

App Store terms

If you got Scenta from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA) also applies to your use of the app, together with these terms. In addition:

• These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content.
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
• If the app fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
• We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims about the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection and privacy claims, and claims that it infringes someone's intellectual property.
• You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and that you are not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Disclaimers and liability

We work hard to keep Scenta reliable, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties such as merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, and our total liability for any claim about Scenta is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Scenta Pro in the 12 months before the claim and US$50.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by contract, or our liability for fraud, gross negligence, or death or personal injury we cause.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the place where Early Rocket, LLC is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live and may bring claims in your local courts. Before going to court, please email us so we can try to resolve the issue informally.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We change the date at the top and, for changes that materially affect you, tell you in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using Scenta after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can delete your account.
